Progress Energy is testing its emergency sirens surrounding its North Carolina nuclear plant.
The Raleigh-based utility will do a full-volume test Tuesday morning of 83 sirens in a 10-mile area around the Shearon Harris plant near New Hill. The test will last about five seconds.
Progress Energy Inc. conducts silent tests every two weeks and short tests every three months. The full-volume tests take place each year.
New Hill is about 15 miles southwest of Raleigh.
