Police in Fuquay-Varina are investigating the armed robbery of a mattress store Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the Mattress Discount store at 101 North Main Street around 9 a.m.

When officers arrived, 82-year-old Curtis Hopkins said a black male entered the store and demanded money.

The suspect forced Hopkins, the store's owner and operator, into a back room and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Hopkins described the suspect as being in his thirties and approximately 5'10". Hopkins told officers that the suspect had what appeared to be a handgun protruding from the waistline of his pants. The suspect was last seen driving west on NC Hwy 42 West Academy Street in a small four door white vehicle.
