WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -

Resurfacing of the 2.5-mile section of Interstate 440 from I-40 to U.S. 64/264 Bypass in Wake County will begin Sunday, Aug. 16, weather permitting.

The $3.4 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Raleigh and is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Work is scheduled to be completed by June 2010.

The project contract specifies that work can only take place at night from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. In addition, closures can take place on the I-440 ramps at I-40, Poole Road, and U.S. 64 Bypass between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m.

NCDOT reminds drivers to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. You can plan ahead before driving by visiting the NCDOT Traveler Information Management website or call 511, the state's free travel information line for current travel conditions.
