Siara Mims' seventeen year old brother Paris posted a surprising Craigslist ad offering to sell his seat in an American Government class at Wake Tech Community College.
"He was not trying to be fraudulent, he wasn't trying to hustle anyone, he saw an opportunity," Mims said.
It was an opportunity to make a little money. Mims said the lack of cash was the reason her brother had to drop the class in the first place. He is a high school student and until the recent state budget cuts, the class he was taking was free.
"With the new legislation for dual enrollment he was being force to pay for a class he didn't know he was going to have to pay for and because of our family's financial situation we couldn't afford it," Mims said.
When Paris found out the school including President Dr. Stephen Scott thought it was wrong and was investigating, Mims said her brother took down the ad immediately.
"It isn't very ethical but I think the bigger picture here is the classes are so full that a student thinks that other students will be willing to pay extra to get in," Scott said.
Mims said the students are desperate to get in.
"As soon as we said he had to drop the class we were bombarded with students who wanted to take his seat," said. Mims
Mims said her brother learned his lesson, but she hopes her family can find another way for him to take the class next semester.
She said the class cost about $300 including books.

So is it illegal??? and I think he was just selling his spot not his name and all that...

Genius! If the buyer would take tests under the seller's name, I can see this really catching on.
