U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan announced that Rocky Mount will receive a $991,722 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant for Tar River Transit system upgrades.
"This grant will both improve our public transportation infrastructure in Rocky Mount and spur job growth in our community," Hagan said. "I will continue working to secure federal funding for important transportation projects in Rocky Mount and across North Carolina."
"We are pleased to receive an award of over $990,000 for the Tar River Transit system from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act," said Rocky Mount Mayor David Combs. "These funds will be used to install additional shelters on our routes, replace worn out bus engines, make improvements at the bus station, and acquire two new vehicles for service expansion. All of these expenditures will improve public transportation service while helping to stimulate the area economy."
Senator Hagan worked with her colleagues to craft the Recovery Act to create and save jobs and jumpstart the economy.
