Town Engineer Tracy Stephenson said traffic in front of businesses in downtown Varina can get pretty heavy for a small town but a solution is in sight.
"It's going to take traffic and divert it around downtown from 401 to N.C. 55," Stephenson said.
This is the second phase of Judd Parkway that Stephenson said will eventually loop around Fuquay Varina.
"It's going to help folks who are going downtown to get through more quickly."
But Phillip Cammarata owner of J & S New York Pizza says he has some concerns with the project.
"The negative part is that we can get as many people trying by and see our store so we'll probably have to do more advertising," Cmmarata said.
But Cammarata said there's a bright side.
"We won't have as much traffic. It's really hard to back out of our store and people don't want to stop because of all the traffic and they rather come back later," Cammarata said.
Currently, this part of the road will have outlets at N.C. 55, Highway 401 and Stewart Road. As businesses begin to build along the parkway, more exits will be developed.
Town officials said that this section of the road will be completed by November of 2010.
This part of Judd Parkway is costing about $4.1 million. The town is getting the funding through local bonds. The one point five miles of road will connect with the older section built in the late ‘90's in the Southeast area of town.
Stephenson said the Southwest and Northwest section of the loop will be completed in the next ten years.
