A man shot by police earlier this month has been released from the hospital and taken to jail.
Elliott Pierce was taken to Durham County Jail Thursday after he was released from Duke University Hospital.
Pierce was injured during a traffic stop near the intersection of Dearborn Drive and Ader Street on Sept. 1.
Officers attempted to stop a Nissan Altima. Police say Pierce, a passenger in the vehicle, got out and began to fire several shots at officers. Authorities say the officers returned fire. Pierce was shot in the abdomen and the leg. The officers were not injured.
Pierce is charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a stolen firearm.
He is also facing a federal charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was placed in Durham County Jail under a $1 million bond.
The Altima was found abandoned a short distance away. Officers are trying to locate the driver and a second passenger in the car.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Investigator Sole at 560-4440, ext. 29350 or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200.
