WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -

Wake County teachers will not receive pay raises this year.  That news comes on top of state cutbacks that eliminated teacher bonuses for achieving test score goals.

The Board of Education voted to approve the salary schedules for the current school year holding salaries at the same levels as last year.

However, board member did agree to spend $420,000 to provide increases to about 1,600 teachers who qualify based on their years of service.

The increases are part of a county supplement program for teachers designed to keep salaries competitive with other school districts.  Supplements range from just over 13 percent of salary for beginning teachers to more than 16 percent for veteran teachers.

"The system has worked very hard to provide a positive on top of the state pay, which is our local salary schedule," said Stephen Gainey, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. "It's no mystery that that's important to employees."

The supplement plan for Wake County teachers is among the highest in the state.

If "EDUCATION" is so damn important in this state, then I ask "WHY" is the Education System the one that must suffer. Perhaps the so called "Intellectuals" within our government should consider that "Without" teachers there would be "NO" educated people to fulfill the jobs necessary to create revenue to further fuel the system. Stop and think before you act! If this current practice remains, "The World Will Be Full Of Idiots" and as we all know We have enough of them running this world now!

Simply not right! We are hurting the resources we need the most. Our future depends on it -- the state needs to wise up. Perhaps go back to school to become better educated ....
