The Sampson County Sheriff's Office has seized $6 million worth of marijuana (roughly 2,400 plants).
The office issued a press release Friday saying that the plants were found in a wooden area near the Black River in Ivanhoe. Authorities found the plants with aerial surveillance in cooperation with the SBI.
Officials believe the growers of the plants had left the area prior to the bust. Those persons are believed to be "squatters," who used someone else's land to grow the plants.
"The southern part of Sampson County still has vast wooded areas that are ideal for someone to set up their operation without the risk of being detected easily. I'm just thankful that we were able to locate the marijuana plants before they ended up in the hands of someone's child," said Sheriff Jimmy Thorton.

The criminalization of marijuana as well as other banned substances is the reason why these substances end up in our childrens hands. If the Gov't would wake up they would realize that taxation and regulation of marijuana is the only way to keep it out of the hands of children. Right now marijuana is easier for kids to get than alcohol or cigarettes. Why? Because these other "legal" substances are regulated by the Gov't. Take the criminal element out of production and distribution and regulate the manufacture and sale of marijuana to responsible adults.

Well Duh, there's a surprise. Talk about someone wanting to get re-elected. Anyone can find a (natural) crop that grows in the wide open. How about busting a meth lab for a change or would that be too much work? But then again, we all know how crime and violence prone stoners are. Lazy idiots!

What a waste of our tax dollars. Unemployment is at a record high, homeless shelters are overcrowded in raleigh, and the state has to lay off its own emloyees but we have enough money to fly helicopters over rural areas to see if anyone has marijuana plants on their property. Sickening.
