Fatal crashes involving teens ranging from 16 to 19 years old account for more than 200 deaths every year in the state of North Carolina.
To help combat the statistic, the Apex Police Department is joining with the National Safety Council for "Alive at 25" - a program that teaches teens safe driving tips.
The Department will hold an "Alive at 25" class on Oct. 17 to teach teens safe driving tips and put them through a DWI simulation course.
Sergeant Mark Flaugher said the program is free for any young adult between 16 and 25 years old without a driving violation.
"It teaches them a little more responsibility on driving and it also allows them to have a little more experience," Flaugher said. "A lot of the kids get out there for the first two years and don't really understand what is going on. They have the basics but they don't understand what to do on the road."
Parents can also participate in a course on Sept. 26 that teaches them how to keep their kids safe on the road.
