FORT BRAGG, N.C.

The third of six paratroopers accused of killing a fellow soldier they subdued outside a bar has taken a plea bargain that will cut his rank and pay.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Wednesday that Pfc. Andrey Udalov pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and conspiracy to commit assault. A Fort Bragg spokesman said Udalov's age and hometown were not immediately available.

Udalov could have faced up to 10 years in prison if convicted in the death of 27-year-old Pfc. Luke Brown of Fredericksburg, Va.

Brown died last summer after men from his 82nd Airborne Division headquarters intelligence unit beat him into submission so they could return to their Fort Bragg barracks. Witnesses said Brown had run wildly from the bar into the woods.
