Clayton residents will have their own emergency department as of Thursday. Johnston Medical Center-Clayton opens the doors on its latest addition at 7 a.m.
Staff members stocked supplies, got flu shots and made last-minute preparations Wednesday. The facility will staffed by the same emergency physicians who work at the WakeMed Emergency departments. Doctors say patients can expect high quality care close to home.
"We want people to know in Johnston County and Clayton that this is really a completely full-service emergency department, not just an urgent care," said Erik Manring, Wake Emergency Physicians.
The hospital opened its outpatient diagnostic and surgery center in early September. Johnston Health has received state approval to relocate beds from its Smithfield campus to Clayton, but no timetable has been set for the move.
