The Apex Police Department has a new monthly program they hope will make roads safer.
Sergeant Mark Flaugher says for the month of October, Apex police with focus on enforcing stop sign violations on buses and roadways.
"We've [received] a lot of complaints since traditional school started -- about school buses being passed while stopped," Flaugher said.
"There have been accidents in the state and the county, and we're trying to prevent that in Apex."
Parents say one dangerous bus stop in Apex is on Highway 55 and Fantail Lane.
"I have to bring my son up here every morning because I'm afraid he's going to get hit," Jennifer Tidwell said.
"When you have little, small children they are not watching so drivers really need to be aware," Cynthia Hillard said.
Flaugher says on a two lane road, everyone in both directions must come to a complete stop. But the rules are different for drivers on larger roadways including Highway 55.
"The main rule is if you have four lanes of traffic and a median or turning lane, the traffic going opposite the bus or coming at the nose of the bus can continue moving, but traffic going in the same direction must stop," Flaugher said.
The department is also patrolling street stop sign all over town. Flaugher warns people that they will get ticketed.
"I think a lot of times people think of speeding as the biggest violations but there are a lot of other safety violations that can cause problems," resident Merissa Lee said.
In November, the department will focus on preventing drivers from running red lights
