RALEIGH, N.C. -

North Carolina politicians wary they may be blamed for a boondoggle have assured that taxpayer money that helped lure a massive Dell Inc. computer assembly plant to North Carolina will be recovered.

About $18 million in public money spent to help Dell gear up appeared to be sunk costs after the plant near Winston-Salem shut down in January.

That includes more than $9 million the state Transportation Department spent to widen roads and upgrade interchanges to accommodate the plant and traffic resulting from it.

The state spent nearly $4 million to train workers, while the Golden LEAF fund provided more than $1 million to screen about 8,000 jobseekers and help train about 1,200 hired to work at the plant.

Dell has never had agood reputation when it comes to the concern of it's costomers or the community, realy any company that would raise it's interest rates just because it could from 14% to 30% on a costomer that has been a very good customer for years paid on time and paid the balance before it was do. With DELL it's all about the money.

I am sorry Winston-Salem spent the money to improve their roads. We need more Hawthorne curves around.

Doesn't Dell have any strings attached to all this money given to their benefit ?
