A Garner woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly having someone set her home on fire and then filing an insurance claim.
According to a press release from the Department of Insurance, 32-year-old Kimberly Joyce Smithson was arrested on charges of larceny and breaking and entering, filing a false report, insurance fraud, and obtaining property by false pretenses.
One arrest warrant states Smithson stole diamond, sapphire, pearl, emerald and gold jewelry totaling more than $14,000. Investigators allege that Smithson stole the jewelry while house sitting for a friend in Rocky Mount.
Another warrant claims Smithson filed a fraudulent insurance claim in April claiming that a flat screen TV an a digital camera were stolen from her home. She received a payment of $310.46 for her alleged losses.
Additional arrest warrants state that Smithson had someone set her Garner home on fire and then filed an insurance claim for $9,389 for property destroyed in the fire.
Smithson was arrested and taken to the Wake County Jail where she was placed under a $52,000 secured bond.
