The UN Human Rights Council, prompted by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (UNHRC), commissioned the Goldstone report which, not surprisingly, indicated Israel abused human rights and deliberately targeted civilians during last winters Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.
On November 4, 2009 the US House of Representatives voted on House Resolution 867 which condemned the UN report. The final vote was 344 for, 36 against, and 22 present. Twenty-one percent of House Democrats voted against the Resolution, including David Price (D-NC-4). "If I were in Congress I would have voted in support of H. Res 867," said Frank Roche. Roche continued, "It would be consistent with my belief the UN is a weak and compromised institution, from which no report or recommendation should be taken seriously. "
Mr. Roche went on to say, "Further, the vote in Congress, particularly the Nay vote by David Price, shows once again the duplicitous nature of the Democrats and their pursuit of the Jewish vote in America." "On the campaign trail, Democrats like David Price use rhetoric in firm support of Israel, recognizing the only democracy in the region needs US support as she is surrounded by nations who, to put it mildly, don't care for the existence of Israel, yet when they get into the halls of Congress vote in opposition to their campaign rhetoric."
Frank Roche says, "it's time for Jews in North Carolina's 4th district to reconsider their support for David Price, and get behind a courageous candidate who disavows the UN, supports Democracy over suspect regimes, and knows Israel, like the United States, does all she can to protect herself while working hard to avoid civilian casualties and abusing human rights."
