CARY, N.C. -

Hundreds of people were rockin' out Sunday in Cary -- all for a great cause.

Maripolooza 2009 went on all afternoon at the Koka Booth Amphitheater, helping to raise money for the Mariposa School for Children with Autism.

The free event had music, vending, a silent auction and of course all sorts of stuff for kids to do.

With the money they raised today, organizers hope to offer more programs, allowing them to help more kids and families dealing with autism.

"The need for programming is tremendous out there," said Jacqueline Gottlieb, Mariposa's Executive Director. "Our school focuses on functional communication and developing that through applied behavior analysis. It's critical to get these kids communicating."

Organizers had hoped to get 500 people to turn out; they'd shot past that goal by the half-way point.

It was a great day. The weather was beautiful! Thank you to Erica Brown for her dedication and leadership for planning the event as well as all those who came out to support the event including volunteers, vendors, sponsors, donors, and patrons. Special thanks to Mind the Gap for the sound system and all of the performers. What a terrific day for children with autism and their families. Last but not least, thank you to Chris Cowperthwaite and NBC 17 for the coverage and emcee of the event! We will see everyone next year!
