Wake County wants to change how it disperses affordable housing across the county.
The topic was discussed Monday at the commissioners work session.
Annemarie Maiorano, with Wake County Affordable Housing Programs, said towns in the eastern part of the county currently have higher percentages of affordable housing.
She said the county should look at supporting more affordable housing units in towns like Morrisville, Cary and Apex.
She also told commissioners that it's also important to make sure the affordable housing units have access to transportation.
"You really want to watch your isolation of families," she said. "So we're going to make a conscious effort to look at making sure there's at least some kind of transportation there to families."
The county currently funds about 2,000 affordable housing units.
The changes discussed will be brought to commissioners for a vote in December.
