High gas prices will keep some Triangle residents close to home this holiday weekend.
"I probably would have went home to South Carolina had prices been much lower." Durham resident Darrell Bryant said. "Now, it would probably take more than $100 just to take that five hour ride back."
So instead, Bryant will be working on the fourth. Fuel prices are high enough to make him shift his everyday routines.
"There are a lot of places I walk now or just don't go," he said.
According to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report, the average price of gas per gallon in the Triangle was $4.04 Thursday. That's cheaper than the national average of $4.10. Bryant paid $4.07 a gallon in Durham.
AAA estimates that for the first time this decade, fewer Americans will travel this holiday weekend. The organization projects about 34-million Americans, more than 13 percent of the U.S. population, will hit the road this weekend.
