Hannah Byrd of Raleigh found the perfect wedding gown at a sale called Brides Against Breast Cancer, organized by the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, Sunday.
Byrd had about 800 dresses to choose from. All were donated by designers, boutique owners, and regular women. Prices ranged from $200 to $2,500.
"Wonderful. They're amazing. Like a third of the price," she said. "I used to be really into designers and everything and I just knew that that was never going to be affordable to me once I realized what my budget was for the wedding and how much wedding dresses cost. And so now this is able to make that dream come true."
The sale is also making dreams come true for others.
All the money raised goes toward making a wish come true for a stage IV breast cancer patient.
"That was probably the biggest selling point I think. Because if I was going to put that much money into a dress or any money into a dress... if it was going to go into something that would help people out, I would much rather do that than give it to some company," Byrd said.
The organization grants a wish to a breast cancer patient in each city where it holds a sale.
"People do Disney trips. A lot of vacations. It just varies. But vacations are pretty big. And Disney trips are pretty big," said Thomasina Whitley, a local wedding planner who helped organize the sale in Raleigh.
The foundation sold about 40 dresses this weekend and raised more than $28,000, Whitley said.
