Did you know that eggs from backyard hen coops, or from free-range farms, can contain up to 20 times more healthy omega-3 fatty acids, have 34% less cholesterol, less fat, and 40% more vitamin A than factory hen eggs?
If you would like to learn more about backyard chickens, and their value to the citizens of Wake Forest, please make sure to visit the Wake Forest Farmer’s Market this Saturday! You will be able to see for yourself that hens, when properly kept in a well-maintained coop or a Chicken Ark, aren't loud or obnoxious. They don't smell bad either! You can see that they're gentle animals, which make great pets and also produce one of our most important foods. We will have an informational table set up, and we'll be there to answer questions and help dispel any concerns you may have about backyard chickens.
Please come by to sign our petition too! We feel it's important for Wake Forest to join many of the more progressive cities and towns which recognize the need for a more sustainable urban landscape including household food production!
Please visit our blog about Backyard Chickens for Wake Forest at www.wfchickens.blogspot.com, and come see us at the Wake Forest Farmer's Market!
