After almost a week of staying away from cameras, the husband of a murdered Cary jogger spoke out Friday, even if it was through a lawyer.
Attorney Seth Blum said Brad Cooper has stayed out of sight because he is grieving privately over the death of his wife, Nancy.
"He is not a suspect, he is not a person of interest, and he has been very, very clear with the police: he did not kill his wife," said Blum.
Citing attorney-client privilege, Blum refused to go into detail about any of the accusations leveled at Cooper through court papers.
Nancy Cooper's family won temporary custody of Brad's two daughters Wednesday, with emergency custody suit saying Brad cheated on her, withheld money, emotionally abused both her and the children, and has been unstable.
"The bizarre and unsupported theories that have been floating around television and the internet have made it impossible for us to sit quietly and to say nothing," said Blum.
From then on, though, Blum was a parade of "no comments," even after the news conference finished up.
Earlier in the day, Nancy's family members spoke at their final news conference of the week, begging whoever killed the 34-year-old mother of two to turn surrender.
"The pain that has been inflicted with this senseless act should be brought to an end," said Nancy's father, Garry Rentz. "And one way to do it is to have the spine to come forward to acknowledge what you have done."
Nancy's parents and siblings say they want to step out of the spotlight for several weeks, to mourn privately back home in Canada, and they appreciate all the support they've gotten here in Cary.
