RALEIGH, N.C. -

Not everyone's complaining about high gas prices.

Two scooter shops in Raleigh say their business has doubled and they have gas prices to thank for that.

Scooterz Inc. on Hillsborough Street says sales are up 50 percent compared to last year.

"We're selling them as fast as we can put them on the floor," said Hoag.

Laura Dudley's thinking about buying a scooter so she doesn't have to ride around town in her gas-guzzling minivan.

"I mean this gets 140 miles per gallon and my van gets between 18 and 22 on a good day. I'll be saving a fortune in gas," Dudley said.

Two doors down, Electric Scooter City is also seeing a boom.

"We just opened this store, but sales in the old store have been fantastic since about March of this year. Some months we're up 50 percent. One month we doubled from last year," said owner Rich Sathoff.

Because Electric City Scooters only sells electric scooters and Scooterz Inc. only sells gas-powered scooters, there's not a whole lot of competition.

But the owners of both stores say they're trying to create a one-stop shop.

"It seems like people have discovered that there's things out there that aren't cars that they can get around on," said Sathoff.

The scooters range in price depending on what you want.

The electric scooters can cost you anywhere from $300 to $2,100.

Gas-powered scooters -- which can travel further faster -- range in price from $1,700 to $7,000 for a top of the line model.
